‘Tis the season for giving tampons and pads!
We Gotchya is one of five charities selected to be wrapped into the Holiday Tree program at Northwest Missouri State University. That means that collection bins around campus will be stuffed with tampons and pads alongside toys, clothing and food donations.
The other charities benefiting from the Holiday Tree collection are: Bearcat Food Pantry, Ben’s Stockings of Hope, Career Closet, and Pay-It-Forward.
A tree-lighting ceremony was held on Tuesday, Dec. 3, to kick off the giving season. The Horace Mann Laboratory School’s Bearcat Choir sang the cutest holiday songs, fire pits kept us warm, and we heard from several students representing all the religions on campus: Christianity, Hinduism, Juddaism and Islam.
During the ceremony, the university’s president, Dr. John Jasinski, explained the welcoming atmosphere on campus that’s accepting of all religions. It’s in this open and accepting environment that periods and menstruation are openly discussed at such a ceremony. We Gotchya is grateful for this warm support and openness in addressing menstrual needs on campus.
Happy Holidays to the entire Maryville community!
